family life. oh! and pies.

oh goodness.
i truly adore being an aunt.
i don't get to see my niece and nephews all that often...but when i do, it makes my heart oh-so happy.
above is the newest addition to the family, henry.
just look at those eyes!!
squeeeep!

when the holidays roll around, i know i'll have several opportunities to see my family.
sisters. brother. niece. nephews.
a few times a year, almost all of us make it under the same roof.

and if, when the family comes around, i happen to make some terribly delicious pies and awe them all with my fabulous baking skills...well...so be it.
actually, some of my pies turned out kind of strange and wiggly this year...all except my apple pie (not pictured), which is always my shining glory.
i could make apple pies all day long and never tire of it!

well.
this is my 2012 thanksgiving post.
i'm ever so thankful for family...and pies.
happy late thanksgiving, folks!
hope you had a swell one.

a day in the life.

hello!
oh yes.
i know.
it's been a while.
but i'm back!
huzzah!

so back in november i did an instagram challenge.
basically, take a picture every hour and post it on instagram.
kind of a glimpse into a day in my life.
and now i'm sharing it here!

8am.
waking up in my room is a beauteous sight.
the quilts.
the photos.
the simple, quaintness of my room.
i love it all so very much.

9am.
i don't know about you...but i think leg warmers are kind of the coolest invention ever.
nothing else keeps me quite as warm as a pair of leg warmers.
and they're just about as fashionable as can be.

10am.
every day i spend a total of 2 hours in the car.
driving/riding to and from work.
it's kind of annoying at times...but i may not have to do so much longer.
*secret alert* stay tuned for more.

11am.
the theatre.
my work.
my hobby.

my home away from home.

12pm.
oh chickfila.
there is no place quite like you.
waffle-y fries.
perfectly fried chicken.
sweet tea.
chickfila sauce.
PERFECTION!

1pm.
the costume shop.
some lovely 80's clothing.
(we were in the middle of costuming "footloose.")

2pm.
i'm not going to lie...having a name tag is one of the coolest things.
of all time.
"rebecca roberts.
costumer."
!!!!!

3pm.
remember that time when i was all alone in a sketchy neighborhood working in the costume shop and a strange man walked in and i hid behind a clothes rack and then he left?
ya.
fun times, for sure.

4pm.
i have a fez now.
fezzes are cool.

5pm.
hanging with my friends in the box office.
sitting behind a desk like i actually know how to run the computers.
i don't.

6pm.
stretches before footloose rehearsal.
see that awkward foot just kind of sticking out there.
that belongs to me.
i just pretend i know what i'm doing.

7-10pm.
footloose rehearsals.
because who wouldn't think it's a good idea to be in a show that rehearses during thanksgiving and christmas break and opens on new year's eve?
i think it's a FABULOUS idea.
what else would i do?

11pm.
the long drive home.
it seriously feels longer every day.

and there you have it, my friends!
a view of my epic and exciting life as a costumer.
this is basically my every day (with a little twists and turns here and there).
of course, instead of rehearsals i have shows.
speaking of...oh my goodness...footloose is kind of the coolest show of all time.

it's good to be back!

people watching.

i spent the afternoon "people watching" with my friend, maddy.

we visited a bookstore which was located in an old opera house.
it had so many fun nooks, crannies, and stairs leading to more and more rooms.
all completely full of books.

after this we went to a coffee shop.
we couldn't help but play a little game of "hipster i-spy" which resulted in this list:
5 flannel shirts
3 messy buns
6 people in stripes
2 guys playing chess
1 jacket with elbow patches
4 lace-up boots
5 books
2 fedoras
and 1 guy with dreds

(just two guys playing chess in a coffee shop. no big deal.)

i love people watching.

trying.

this is me...

...trying to forget "fiddler on the roof" is over forever.

...trying to forget i have 6 big bags of fiddler laundry to do.

...trying to forget how sketchy the laundromat is.

...trying to stop wearing my new winter hats i got in the mail.

...trying to sleep after a 7 hour nap this afternoon.

...trying to not be nervous about footloose auditions later this month.

...trying to contain my excitement about looking at some apartments this week.

...trying to not talk about how much i love the weather.

...trying to not miss the people i've grown to love.

and failing...miserably.

my halloween.

every year i like to spend my halloween a little differently than other people (be it a ball, etc.).
this year was no exception:

this halloween i spent the day...
sewing christmas costumes.
watching charles dickens movies (that's about the scariest movies i like to watch).
going, with two of my dear friends, to a diner. in 40's garb. and getting a chocolate shake.
watching episode 7 of downton abbey (season 2)...with much commentary from the viewers, mind you.
and listening to my friend read "sherlock holmes" aloud...and with a very terrifying accent (actually...it was hilarious).

i quite liked this halloween.

how did you spend yours?

pumpkins! aka...i love fall.

last weekend, after an all day rehearsal (what? rehearsal? oh right...i forgot you didn't know...more on that soon!) we went to pick up some pumpkins and head to a fall party!!
this was my first pumpkin picking out experience.
and, consequently, my first pumpkin carving experience.
so don't judge my "mustache" pumpkin which happens to look like two fish kissing.
stop laughing.
i think it's beautiful.

fall is kind of my favorite season...ever. and i'm so ready for it this year, after such a HOT summer.
i love wearing tights, long sleeves, sweaters, leg warmers, hats, boots...eee! just thinking about it makes me excited!
unfortunately...it's still in the 80's here.
sigh.

but fall is here (technically), and i am still wearing my leg warmers, tights, long sleeves, sweaters, and hats...even if it's still hot outside!

HAPPY FALL!!!

painting leaves. pies. and surprises.

two weeks ago i got to be a part of planning a surprise birthday party for one of my dearest friends, maddy. at first it was to be a picnic...but then it rained...so it was changed into an indoor picnic/tea party. the night before the "big day" i remembered my promise of producing two pies for the event. so at 11pm as it was raining and everyone had gone to bed...i stayed up baking pies. it was kind of the most peaceful, happy moment of my life. next time it's late and it starts to rain...i'm totally baking some pies.

the next day, after church, i drove maddy to my house and we painted leaves as her mother and sister rushed home to set up the party at *her* house. i'm just going to say...those were probably the most stressful hours of my life. i HATE keeping secrets...so it was hard not to burst as we were painting leaves and she was talking about still trying to figure out what to do for her birthday. she was...clueless.

after splashing in some mud-puddles, i drove her home. she wanted to go into the house through the garage...and i, knowing everyone was by the front door ready to yell "surprise" made up a silly excuse of not liking to go through other people's garages because it made me feel awkward. somehow she believed me...and we walked through the front door. everyone yelled. someone grabbed her from the side. she squealed. and i began to shake violently because it was over.

the party was a hit. she was surprised. and i was exhausted. but it was so worth it...!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MY BEAUTIFUL, WHIMSICAL FRIEND!!

day of thanksgiving and christmas

yesterday two of my older sibs and their family came over and we celebrated thanksgiving AND christmas.
you can imagine the chaos of the house this whole week...getting ready.
cooking, cleaning, wrapping presents, and making the house "baby proof"
two crawlers and a walker can get into all sorts of mischief.

well it was a truly lovely day.
i have some incredibly adorable nephews and an equally adorable niece.
piper sat in my lap the whole day. i love her.

and my little graham-y is learning to walk!
he has the biggest cheeks.
and was dressed to the "t".

and cute little zander.
he's quite the talker.
and starts every sentence with "because"
(it seems to add more credibility to what he says)
plus, he has the cutest laugh.

check out what happens when the whole family sits around a talking parrot toy:

and so the lunch was a success!
it was a great time having all the sibs and babies (except my dear sister sara) over!
and i love them all dearly.

and they loved the little gifts i made them, too!
but i'll show you those some other time.
for now, au revoir!

something exciting, lovely, yummy, and a secret.

hello my lovelies.
well tomorrow i'm doing something ever so exciting!
i can't wait to share.
and i'm determined this week is gonna be just swell.

i'm gradually fixing up the upstairs sewing room.
so i'll share pictures as soon as it's finally done.
meanwhile, i've been working on ALOT of different crafty projects.
i don't know about you, but this time of the year always turns me into a craft-o-holic.
which is good...
because my family and friends end up getting pretty cool christmas presents.

any ideas for fun, unique gifts?
are you in a crafty mood as of late?
have you been getting ready for christmas yet?

oh.
i've been inviting to participate in a recipe exchange.
but i need some more email addresses.
if you'd like to participate, too...drop me a line and i'll add you to the list!
new recipes are fun around the holiday season!

p.s. i've got a secret project in the midst.
hope to tell you about it soon!
more later :)

lovely, lovely saturday.

eventful day.
i got yellow tights, leg warmers, and moccasins (all of which i have been absolutely LONGING for).
plus DROVE to fort worth.
plus found an amazing piece of furniture for the upstairs sewing room.
plus had a giant hamburger.
plus took a little trip to africa (aka cabella's) just to see the elephants.
AND finishing up the day with some hot mint tea curled up watching amazing grace.
it's been a good one.

i wish.

i wish that texas would realize october is supposed to be a cold month. the rainy day yesterday sure tricked me into thinking fall had finally come.

i wish i wouldn't wait until sunday night to do all my homework for the week. silly me.

i wish i owned a yellow skirt.

i wish i had a metal-less mouth. (go away braces) waiting. waiting until december.

i wish i wasn't tempted to eat a whole bowl of cookie dough when i'm making cookies. because then i wouldn't think about how much better the cookie dough tasted before they were cooked.

i wish i knew how to carve a pumpkin. i've never carved a pumpkin in my whole entire existence. this just isn't right.

i wish driving didn't scare me so bad. taking the driver's test soon. pray for me. please.

i wish days were longer.

and...i wish tomorrow was not monday.

what do you wish?

pumpkin patch

fully prepared to spend a day at the house getting numerous things accomplished.
and we get a phone call.
asking if we had forgotten about the pumpkin patch field trip.
we had.
surprise, surprise.

we rushed in the car and drove over.
missed the hay ride.
but not the "bee attack".
or the "lost key" adventure.
or the "i'm so hot i'm about to faint" moment(s).

why is it hot at the pumpkin patch?
this should be a trip where you bundle up with scarves, wool coats, and the like.
silly texas.
don't you know it's october?!

p.s. i have this friend named ryleigh.
she's pretty awesome.
and nice.
even if she quit chemistry and abandoned me.
but i forgive her.

p.p.s
the pumpkins were pretty awesome.
and orange.
and ridiculously overpriced.

and it was a very fun trip.
:o)
