the magic of the costume shop.
because there's really no other place you would find a random teletubbies headpiece hanging around for no reason.

roland pennywhistle.
have you ever taken an unplanned trip into hobby lobby only to ironically exit with a garden gnome in hand...?
...right, we all do it...

of london dressing rooms and the editor of vogue.
STORY TIME!
once.
when i was in london.
(i really love saying that.)
i was in a vintage clothing shop...trying on a dress in a fitting room.
a lady accidentally walked in on me changing.
(luckily it was winter so i still had about 5 layers of clothing on.)
later, when i was checking out and buying my dress, the owner of the shop pointed to the lady and told me that she's the editor of vogue magazine.
THE vogue magazine.
i later googled "editor of vogue magazine."
guess who popped up?
dressing room intruder lady.
and that's the story about how the editor of vogue magazine walked in on me changing clothes in the dressing room of a vintage clothing shop in london, england.

christmas memories.
did i ever tell you about the christmas of 2012?
it was...an eventful day, to say the least.
it started out as many christmases do.
with the opening of presents.
(i got a record player!!!)
and general hubbub.
but to me...the most exciting thing of all was the chance to see LES MISERABLES on opening day!
i mean...i was only waiting for it ALL YEAR!!
so, even though it had started snowing (my second white christmas!) my mom, sister, and i all headed off to the city to see les mis.
it was a beautiful movie.
i laughed, cried, and loved it.
i can't even begin to explain how truly wonderful that movie is.
oh my.
well.
after a terrifyingly scary attempt to get home on the icy roads...it was decided we had to stay the night in town.
christmas night.
in a hotel.
also?
we hadn't eaten any dinner.
and, being christmas, everything was closed.
so christmas dinner was a candy bar, bag of chips, and sprite.
it was a sad...SAD day.
so...the day started off well.
the movie was GLORIOUS.
but the evening...not so much.
:/
just making memories.
xo.

that place that didn't exist.
towards the end of the roadtrip i think we were all getting a bit tired of being in the car.
just a bit.
okay...QUITE a bit.
but there was plenty to do in the car!
my number one favorite activity?
travel journaling:
i filled out my travel journal very nicely.
each page includes little details and pictures from each day's adventures.
this roadtrip was my first attempt at travel journaling...and i'm SO glad i did it.
i always save little momentos from travels, but never know what to do with them.
ticket stubs.
hotel card keys.
pictures.
maps.
and they all fit very nicely in my travel journal.
one day, we had a very interesting time trying to find a hotel.
and by interesting...i mean freaky.
according to our gps, we were searching for a hotel that didn't exist, in a town that...didn't exist.
we spent about an hour winding through neighborhoods and the countryside searching.
it was a bit creepy.
and definitely had the feeling of a doctor who episode.
i was on the lookout for aliens and a police box the whole evening.
but the most exciting thing that happened, after finding the hotel, was a trip to a chinese restaurant...and chinese food in oklahoma is always VERY interesting.
we spent the last few days (on our way home) at antique stores.
and, let me tell you, i found some TREASURES!
and...a yellow teapot.
SQUEEP!!

senior shoot.
the long awaited senior shoot i promised to share oh-so long ago!
all these photos were taken on a hilarious day by the ever so talented Blake Hannah...and we were joined with the really super dee duper awesome Madison Hoover.
maddy and i were in the parking lot of lowe's waiting on blake to pick a few things up for the shoot.
we may or may not have been listening to disney music.
or singing "a whole new world" at the tippity top of our lungs.
with the windows rolled down.
we see blake come out of the store and walk to our car and ask "did you guys see the robbery that just happened?!"
us: ".......no......"
so apparently there was this actual robbery that happened in lowe's...the robbers ran out the front door (right in front of us)...and we missed it all.
awesome.
we picked up a few props for the shoot and headed to our first location: a wheat field.
coolest. thing. ever.
we hopped a fence.
threw a red chair over.
i sat in the wheat.
and epic pictures soon ensued.
second location: mysterious pine forest in the middle of texas by the lake.
a forever long hike from the road to the forest...but so totally worth it.
i literally felt like we had stepped into a completely different state.
or a magical world.
like narnia.
squeep!
while driving home that night...a tragedy occurred.
winding through the small country road...in the dark...maddy and i had a traumatic experience involving...
an armadillo.
this is a bit how it went:
us: *laughter* "what a fun day" "today was awesome" *more laughter*
when suddenly...a wild armadillo appears.
us: AAAAAHHHH!!!!!!!! *screams and squeals*
me: *slight swerve at an attempt of avoiding it*
car: *ever so slight bump*
us: "what. just. happened."
*hilarious laughter soon follows and doesn't conclude until long after we've arrived at home*
i'm pretty sure i maimed that poor armadillo.
the bump wasn't big enough to have killed him...but i ran over something.
like his tail.
or...a limb.
most terrifying (and slightly hilarious) driving experience OF. MY. LIFE.
but all in all...it was a happy, happy day.

of iphones, rice, and toilets.
in march i had a really traumatic experience involving my beloved iphone...and the toilet.
suffice it to say...the two don't mix very well.
poor bob fell out of my pocket into the water, and before i could snatch it...it had become immersed.
if you know anything about iphones, you know that they should NEVER get wet.
i squealed. grabbed it. dried it off.
it started vibrating uncontrollably...and then went to the black screen of death.
i rapidly googled every combination of "how to save your iphone after it gets wet" and i could find only one thing that might do the trick: rice.
sadly, we are not a usual rice-eating family (and it was really late at night), so we decided to buy rice first thing in the morning.
all night, bob would randomly vibrate (like it was gasping for breath).
it was kind of spooky.
after three full days in rice, i took it out hoping for some magical powers to have been bestowed from the rice to the phone.
alas, it was not to be so.
know that this was happening during tech week for oliver and ALSO my birthday week.
sad, sad day.
the good news: on my birthday i was gifted with a NEW PHONE!
you'd *think* that would be the end of the story.
PSYCH!
it's not.
the bad news: my parents got a new phone...but instead of an upgrade, it turns out to be a downgrade with 8gb less space.
they took it back (having to pay the restocking fee) and got the 16gb one.
but instead of programming MY number, they put MY MOM'S in!
not realizing it, they left the store.
after discovering something was really wrong with HER phone...my parents went BACK to the store.
the salesman couldn't figure out how he made the mistake and said "give me your phone so I can get things switched back because I just killed your phone."
my mom said, "my daughter has MY phone in a different city" (tech week for oliver!).
the clerk next to him said "she will have to find an AT&T store where your daughter is to get a new chip and get it back in service because you just killed her phone!"
he entrusted her with a new "chip" and a paperclip to open the tray on her phone and install herself...without having to go to an AT&T store.
- many hours later...we were back in service.
could it have BEEN any more complicated??!
i think there were many lessons to learn here...but i think the one that has stuck with me the most is NEVER LEAVE YOU PHONE IN YOUR BACK POCKET!!!
i have a mini heart attack every time it's anywhere NEAR water.
the end...for now.

a 1940's photobooth.
last night was the swinging-est dance i've ever been to. literally.
ever since exactly a year ago today...my friends and i have been planning a 40's dance for our annual homeschool cotillion. after HOURS of list making, planning, dreaming, crafting, painting, cleaning, and more...last night was the big night.
and let me tell you...it did NOT disappoint.
hopefully in about a week or so i'll be able to share pictures from the dancing, speaking, singing (three of us performed an andrews sisters song), etc. but for now...here are some of my favorite pictures EVER from the photobooth we set up!
i've been wanting to put one of these together for the longest time (after seeing so many cute ideas on pinterest). it was a HIT! i just got through looking at and editing them all...and i'm just going to say...there are some hilarious ones.
i love this idea so much.
well...i'm off to take a nap. dancing until midnight and talking until 3am can sure make you feel sleepy. i'll share more later!
have a lovely sunday afternoon.

oh...i'm 18.
so...i turned 18 about ten days ago. i didn't do anything crazy or over-the-top. i was in the middle of tech week for oliver, so there was only so much i could actually do. but what made the week really great were the friends i got to spend time with and the people who texted, called, and facebooked me.
i'm oh-so blessed.
the saturday after my birthday was spent seeing hunger games (squeep!!), eating delicious foods, and staying up until an unholy hour (not necessarily my choice).
i got my license renewed the other day...you know, the license that lasts you six years instead of one (because now i'm a legal adult...what...?) and of course it's the WORST picture i've ever seen. i know everyone always says that about their pictures...but you have no idea how bad this one is. sad, sad day.
i think my very favorite part of the week was recieving the absolute BEST card in the mail. i've never laughed so hard while reading a letter as i did while reading this one. i'd share it's contents...but it's very possible you'd think me, and the letter sender, certifiably insane. however, i would have liked to see the postman's face when he saw a letter addressed to "The Divinely Beautiful Queen Rebecca of the Unnamed Kingdom" from "Ryleigh, the Rebel."
oh i love my friends.

today.
today...i filled out 2 pages in my new journal.
today...i started a new book.
today...i accidentally matched two of my best friends.
today...i wished my niece a happy second.
today...i discovered that my brother watches and likes "downton abbey."
today...i ate a cupcake.
today...i saw a really terrible play.
today...i saw a play that was so terrible it evoked "the ugly laugh."
today...i had starbucks with friends and reminisced about aforementioned terrible play.
today...i sang along to "on the street where you live"...in my man singing voice (it was beautiful).
today...i was so full, i made cookies.
today...was a very interesting day.
