ruffle picture pillow

hello! i'd like to show you a little project that has been under-construction for quite a while. i finally decided to pull it out and complete! smart, huh?

basically it's a picture pillow. and the picture is made of mainly ruffles. consisting of a tree and two little blue birds. ruffles are really fun to make pictures with. whether you're adding it to a pillow or a tshirt! and using jersey or ribbon ensures no fraying edges.

i hope you like it. and i can't wait to add it to my window seat in my upstairs sewing room! :o)

it WAS the best christmas pageant ever!

our performances for "best christmas pageant ever" at the theatre are over.
i MUST say it was THE most fun play i've EVER done.
not only was there the funniest group of people.
but i loved having "five siblings".
we totally became a family. messing with each other backstage.
we herdmans were pretty awesome.

have i told you how much i love the theatre?

costume for the day - opening night

opening day/night for "best christmas pageant ever" was today!!
i wore a vintage dress (thrift store!), red belt (either my mom's or grandmother's), white tights (mother's sock drawer), brown leggings (gifted from sister), newsboy hat (costume closet), and a leather bomber jacket (a store called half of half...basically everything is 1/4 the original price).
the building i'm in front of is the theatre we perform in.
isn't it amazing?!

i had the most miserable night last night. terrible dreams.
i mean, seriously, every person i've ever had an issue with showed up in my dream.
and so i awoke. needing more sleep.
but there were children showing up at the theatre. because we had a special show for the 3rd graders of the local elementary school at 8am. pretty sure they were tired too.
(not too lively of an audience)

and when we got home afterwards...i took the longest nap of the century.
i was so tired, that i slept with my hat still on. uncomfortable...but convenient.
and then tonight...we had the best audience!
and a really great show.
such fun!!! :)
i love theatre.

and so. i think this is the best costume for the day.

santa claus.

i don't know about you...but i was always one of those children who greatly disliked the whole sitting on santa's lap...thing.
i was also one of those children who spilt the beans that santa wasn't actually real *gasp*. those poor, shocked kids.
here are pics of my niece and nephews with santa this year.

i think i share the same sentiment as little piper:

and then perfect little graham:

were you a santa believer?

the benefits of costumes and props.

this week is tech week for "best christmas pageant ever".
meaning performances are this weekend.
tonight was the first dress rehearsal.
and i must say...wearing overalls and a newsboy hat really got me into character.
i walked with a swagger...and felt pretty tough.
it was fun. heehee.
plus i got to smoke a cigar!! fake. but it smokes!
ah...theatre.

owls, giraffes, and elephants...oh my!

for christmas this year i made stuffed animals for my niece and nephews.
it was a longer process than i had intended...but the result was oh-so-marvelous.
baby piper got the owl. the owl was my favorite.
not just because it was the easiest to make...but it was THE CUTEST!!!
i kind of wanted to keep it myself.

baby graham got a giraffe.
it turned out really lovely.
and an extra special nice thing was that the fabric had a random fuzzy edge.
so i just cut it off and used it for the mane and tail.
nifty, huh?

and the zander got an elephant.
my favorite part is that the bottom of the legs have the patterned fabric.
the ears are really cute, too.
this elephant makes me smile real big.

and the best thing?? they loved them! such a fun gift to be able to give.
happy early christmas!

p.s. i feel like christmas is over because of the early gift exchange with the sibs. this needs to change.
