Little Women of 2010 - Weekly Update #4

The Little Women of 2010 challenge/event is only 10 days away!



Each week I've introduced you to a judge for the event and I've also posted any changes that had been made.

This week, will be my last week to make any updates, for I am the only judge that has not been properly introduced (however, I'm sure anyone who follows my blog is sure to know most everything there is to know about me). And I can think of no other changes to be made!!

For those of you who haven't already voted, there is a poll for you to answer on the upper right hand corner of this page. It allows you to say which category(s) you'll be entering. So far, the most popular category is "Modern Little Women" with nine votes. However, the "Little Women Photo Shoot" is pulling a hard second with eight votes. The rest have either six or seven votes each! I am so happy that there has been such a nice response and I'm glad that I was able to see the interest in each category. However I hope to see even more interest during the actual event! :)

Make sure you have a banner with the details of the event (you can go here if you need to get one: http://www.sewinginthepast.com/2010/01/little-women-of-2010-literary-inspired.html or you can make your own with the same information) posted somewhere on your blog, and even write a little post about the event if you so choose!

Also, when thinking about what to enter in the categories you choose to compete in, remember that creativity and originality are the biggest things the judges and I will be looking at!

Sewing Inspiration...

Do you ever see a picture or read something and just feel really inspired? Well, that happens to me all the time! I'll be in a dry spell with my sewing, see a picture of a dress or something, and sew for days non-stop! That's what I feel like doing right now! But I have sew (haha) many projects going in my head, I can't decide what to do! Plus, I have alot of projects I've started that I should probably finish (...curtains...) and hopefully will soon so that I can share photos! :)

So here's some pictures that have inspired some new sewing projects...ENJOY!

Project Runway Season 7: Episode 4

Well this was probably my least favorite episode. I loved the challenge and everything...but I really didn't like any of the dresses. Yes, even Anna's. I thought they were all just frumpy, cheap, red satin-y dresses. Hmmm...

The challenge: "The designers must create a signature dress for the Campbell’s AdDRESS Your Heart program."

Now for the models...instead of the regular models they normally have, a few selected women who have had heart problems were the models. Which was a big change for the designers used to dressing stick figure models.


Amy won this challenge. I guess I kind of liked the dress...but not really too much. A little to much "grecian draping" for my taste. The cute little sash with the "Campbell's tomato soup" brand is pretty nice (the designers were given to option to incorporate that fabric). I just didn't like it that much.














The loser was Jesus. I agreed with this decision very much! the dress was WAY too tight and fit very badly! The crystal straps just made it look so cheap! Overall...AWFUL dress!













Maya's dress was in the top three. I thought it was kind of cute but not that much. I thought the "brownish/gold" swooping fabric was ill placed (if you get my meaning) and wasn't very flattering. However, the idea of making it look like half of a heart was a good idea. The "Campbell's" purse was a cute addition too, I thought. BUT, the hem of the dress is not very professional looking...














I have VERY mixed emotions about this dress. It was in the top three. I will say that I think the neckline is beautiful and flattering. However, the stars on the dress made it look very costume-y! I would not have taken that kind of risk at all had I been Mila. But the judges liked it, so I guess she did well.
















Anna's dress was sadly...just plain ugly. The top fabric was way to close to her skin color. And the whole bodice was just really unflattering and made the model look larger than she is/was. The belt was pretty cute-ish. And the skirt was nice and flowy-ish. But just not the best...which is why it was in the bottom three. But I believe Anna will step it up in the next episode.

















Janeane's dress had potential...I really think it did! However, the bottom of the skirt is so, I don't know, pucker-y and messy looking, and I think that really ruined it, sadly.




















This last one I thought was nice-ish. I think the construction looks good and the vest was a good addition. Plus the black fabric corresponding with the "Campbell's" brand fabric was a good choice. The skirt, a little too tight, but okay.

I couldn't really think of a way to incorporate the Campbell's fabric, though.

Baby Piper

My oldest sister Heather came over today with Zander and Piper (her two children and, consequently, my nephew and niece).


I haven't seen Piper since the day she was born so it was nice seeing her! She is probably the cutest little baby I've ever seen!





Mom and I also did a mini photo shoot before they got here and only a couple turned out well... :)

Project Runway Season 7: Episode 3

This episode for project runway was okay...not too crazy or exciting but there were a few cute things.
















The "project": The designers must create a high-end signature look and a look-for-less inspired by another team’s design.


The winner was Mila in this challenge. Her high-end signature look was a coat (that I thought looked more like a penguin and bowling ball mixed together) and pants that looked very well made, but just a little out there for me.















The loser (FINALLY) was Ping...her dress (again) looked very draped and messy. I'm happy she finally got out!




















One I didn't like that the judges did was Maya's dress. I thought it looked like a mushroom... Not my favorite!



















Some of my favorites were:

Anna's cute dress that came with a little capelet. I thought it was very flattering...a little tight and low...but overall very cute and very "high-end".




















Jay's "look for less" dress and vest thing was very cute!! I love the pleating in the front and the contrasting lining on the jacket/vest thing.


















And Emilio's "look for less" striped dress was very fun and flowy. Not too spectacular, but with only a day and $50 I was impressed!
