hope all is well...and maybe now that it's summer time i can take some time to share some of the crazy adventures this year has brought so far.

adventures like:
the time i went to college
the time i was in a wreck because my brakes went out
the time i was attacked by a squirrel
the time i attended a poetry slam
the time i wore a pie dress to a pie store on my 21st birthday
the time i made a massive decision and climbed a roof to celebrate
the time i was a larger than life poster (pictured above)
the time i discovered my foot had been broken for 8 years

theatre challenge - day 3

day 3 of the artist challenge - comedic relief

playing serious and emotional wrenching characters can be an incredible opportunity, don't get me wrong. 

but as an actor, there's just something so exhilarating about getting laughter from an audience...I can't help but adore playing funny characters.

- anne of green gables - 

my first non-ensemble role was playing rachel lynde in this classic tale. 

I learned a lot from this part: how to not smile when being yelled at and how to add padding to your panty hose for a make-shift fat suit...among other things. 

- music man - 

my second go at this musical was at JOY where I perfected my irish accent as mrs paroo. 

- kiss me kate - 

though lois/bianca was definitely supposed to be more of a sexy character than anything, my best attempts led to quite the comedic character. 

simultaneously strengthening my new york accent and wearing a wig for the first time...this show was an entertaining challenge.

- emma - 

I'm not sure how harriett smith morphed into such an amusingly ravenous character, but I'm so glad she did. 

stuffing my mouth with food and acting pathetic for two full hours was more fun than just about any role to date.

- smoke on the mountain/sanders family christmas - 

though mentioned before, I feel it imperative to point out the utter nonsense june sanders endured (and created). 

coconuts, a cactus hat, ridiculous sign language, and sand-paper kneepads?? 

get real.

theatre challenge - day 2

day 2 of the artist challenge - stage siblings

there's something remarkable about pretending to be related to someone onstage. 

you met them only weeks previously, and somewhere along the way you truly become this stranger's sister, and you're having a true sibling relationship onstage, and it's simply glorious.

- the best christmas pageant ever - 

probably the most intense stage-family unit I've ever had. 

imogene herdman and her siblings were the roughest, toughest, dirtiest crew...and it changed my life.

- little women - 

I'm not sure anything in theatre can prepare you for the incredible sisterly bond that doing this show gives you. 

I've had the immense honor of doing this show twice as two different characters (Jo and Beth). 

and, can I say, there will never be a time in my life where I wouldn't do this show again. 

I will always and forever love my March sisters.

- fiddler on the roof - 

another show I've done twice, both times as hodel, both times gaining lifelong sisters. 

there's nothing like being in an emotional roller coaster of a show to morph stage love to true love for your beautiful stage sisters.

- smoke on the mountain/sanders family christmas - 

honestly, spending half of last year as june sanders and a member of the sanders family, was life-changing, to say the least. 

being onstage with the same people for an entire show really bonds you together. 

theatre challenge - day 1

so even though i haven't posted in ages, i wanted to share a facebook challenge i was tagged in:

day 1 of the theatre challenge - beginnings

so the first part is going to cover beginnings in my theatre experience. 

getting started at new theatres can be scary and challenging, but each of these beginnings opened the door to years of incredible theatre & friends.

- music man - 

my very first show at CAIA where I simultaneously played a female barbershop quartet member, the sheriff, and a pick-a-little lady.

- robin hood - 

my first show at JOY, my mother's first directing gig, my first costuming gig, and, actually, the first show at JOY ever. 

this was the beginning of quite a few things, and playing Lady Merle was my first, and probably last, time as the villain of a show.

- scrooge - 

my first show at the Artisan. this show began such a monumental journey...I couldn't even begin to describe the impact it has had. 

in this show I played Mary ("the minister's cat is a boring cat"), and even went on as the Isabel understudy twice.
